Scotland Announces Coaching Staff for 2023 World Juniors
Scotland Box Lacrosse is excited to announce the coaching staff that will lead Scotland and make history competing at their first IIJL World Junior Lacrosse Championship, taking place August 7-12, 2023 in Saskatoon, SK at SaskTel Centre - home of the Saskatchewan Rush (NLL).
Scotland's bench will be led by Head Coach Thomas Moffat. Moffat, hailing from Vancouver, BC, played his junior box lacrosse in the British Columbia Junior A Lacrosse League (BCJALL); Coquitlam Adanacs, Langley Thunder, and Victoria Shamrocks and senior box lacrosse in the Western Lacrosse Association (WLA); Victoria Shamrocks, and Langley Thunder. Moffat attended Alderson-Broaddus University (NCAA DII) where he was named NCAA DII Offensive Player of the Year and All-American Honourable Mention in 2013. Moffat has represented Scotland on the Men's National Box Team at the World Lacrosse 2019 World Indoor Lacrosse Championship (WILC) in Langley, BC and will be on the roster for the 2024 World Lacrosse Box Championships (WLBC), formally known as the WILC, in Utica, NY, USA. Moffat is also a mainstay for the Glasgow Clydesiders on the international club box circuit, having won the 2019 Aleš Hřebeský Memorial.
Out the front gate Scotland will be led by Offensive Coach Jonathan Shaw, who hails from Glasgow, Scotland. Shaw played for Club Glasgow City, University Stirling University where he was named Captain, and University of Glasgow serving as Vice-Captain. Internationally, Shaw represented Scotland on the Men's National Field Team at the 2012 U19 World Championships - Turku, Finland, 2012 European Championships - Amsterdam, Holland, 2016 U19 World Championships - Coquitlam, BC, Canada (Captain), and 2018 World Championships - Netanya, Israel. Shaw also represented Scotland Men's National Box Team at the 2019 World Indoor Lacrosse Championships - Langley, BC, Canada and will be on the roster for the 2024 World Lacrosse Box Championships in Utica, NY, USA and is currently serving as Captain of the Scotland Men’s Box Team.
Scotland's backend will be led by Defensive Coach Peter Shepherd. Shepherd has played for the Nuneaton Lacrosse Club, University Robert Gordon where he served as team Captain, and represented Scotland at the 2018 World Lacrosse Men's Championship Lacrosse. Shepherd has represented Scotland Men's National Box Team at the 2019 World Indoor Lacrosse Championships in Langley, BC, Canada, the 2022 European Indoor Lacrosse Championships in Hannover, Germany, and will be on the roster for the 2024 World Indoor Lacrosse Championships in Utica, NY, USA. Shepherd currently coaches at Stowe School.
